I scored 99 on my ASVAB and I think I got a 116 on my DLAB. Hey Jrbowler! I'm an AF DEPer, with an AFSC 1A8X, Airborne Crypto Linguist. Depending on how well you do on these (the DLAB holds more weight), you'll be placed into a language. You'll take the ASVAB (which you've probably already done) followed by the DLAB (Defense Language Aptitude Battery). Joining straight out of high school, you'll be susceptible to the needs of the Air Force (a phrase you'll often hear). This is not usual, and I will say I was quite lucky. I managed to work the system a bit and get my recruiter to provide, in writing, a caveat in my contract that obligated the Air Force to place me in a certain language (Farsi).

So, my desire to serve my time in the American military, coupled with the fact that I've always felt like I'm a relatively intelligent man, I did my research and figured I could offer the most to my country as an intelligence community member.

I graduated high school in 2003, and in keeping up with the current events of the time, I noticed that Iran was getting, well, out of hand. I made the decision uniquely, I would say.
